Halloween Decorating Fun for Kids | with Layla & Nancy 🎃

Hallowen Decorating Week with Layla & Nancy  🎃

October is here, and Layla and Nancy are ready to make things a little spooky — and a lot of fun!

This week at Layla & Nancy’s Big Adventures, we’re celebrating one of our favorite parts of Halloween: decorating!

It all started right at home when we decided our front porch needed a little Halloween magic. Of course, Layla wanted to carefully inspect everything first, while curious Nancy was ready to jump right into the boxes and see what decorations she could find.

And that gave us an idea…

Why stop at the front porch?

Start With Your Own Halloween Decorating Adventure

Decorating for Halloween can be a fun activity for the whole family, and kids can help with more than you might think.

Let your little adventurers help choose where the pumpkins should go, decide which decorations belong together, or create a pattern using different colors and sizes.

For example:

🎃 Big pumpkin, little pumpkin, big pumpkin, little pumpkin.

👻 Ghost, pumpkin, ghost, pumpkin.

Kids are decorating while also practicing patterns, sorting, colors, sizes, and decision-making.

And don’t worry — your decorations don’t have to be perfect. Sometimes the funniest part is seeing what kids come up with!

Nancy would probably put every pumpkin in one giant pile if we let her.

Layla would definitely have a plan.

Take a Halloween Decoration Hunt Around the Neighborhood

Once your house is decorated, it’s time for another adventure.

Take a walk or drive around your neighborhood and see what Halloween decorations you can discover.

Can you find:

A giant spider

Three pumpkins

A friendly ghost

A skeleton

Orange lights

A witch

Something silly

Something just a little spooky

You can even let kids pick their favorite decorated house.

For older kids, turn it into a game and have them keep track of how many pumpkins, ghosts, or skeletons they see.

It’s an easy way to turn an ordinary evening walk or drive into a Halloween family adventure.

Make a Spooky-Cute Fall Snack

Every adventure needs a snack.

Try making Jack-O’-Lantern Orange Cups together.

All you need are small oranges or clementines and a food-safe marker.

Have an adult draw little jack-o’-lantern faces on the outside of the peel, then let everyone choose their favorite expression.

Happy pumpkin. Silly pumpkin. Sleepy pumpkin. Surprised pumpkin.

Then peel and enjoy!

It’s simple, kid-friendly, and perfect for an afternoon of decorating.

Create Your Own Halloween Decoration

Kids can also make a decoration of their own.

Grab a piece of paper and ask them to design the perfect Halloween pumpkin.

Would it be:

Funny?

Spooky?

Covered in stars?

Purple and pink?

Wearing a silly hat?

There are no wrong answers.

When they’re finished, hang their masterpiece somewhere in your Halloween display so they can see that they helped decorate the house too.

Keep Exploring With Layla & Nancy

This week, Layla and Nancy will be exploring even more Halloween decorating adventures — from decorating their own home to discovering all of the spooky surprises popping up around the neighborhood.

We’ll also have more activities, videos, stories, and adventures for little explorers along the way.

And if your family is decorating for Halloween, we’d love for you to join the adventure.

Ask your little adventurer:

“If Layla and Nancy came to our house, what Halloween decoration would you show them first?”

We can’t wait to see what October brings.

🎃 Happy decorating from Layla & Nancy!
