Land Ahoy! 🚢🐾 Layla & Nancy’s Columbus Day Adventure
Two bulldog sisters. One big sailing ship. An ocean full of adventure!
Ahoy, little adventurers! 🌊🐾
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sail across the ocean on a giant wooden ship?
Today, Layla and Nancy are trading their usual Los Angeles adventures for something a little different—a journey across the sparkling blue sea!
With a treasure map, a telescope, and plenty of curiosity, these two sisters are ready to set sail!
All Aboard the Adventure Ship! ⛵
The morning sun shimmered across the ocean as Layla and Nancy climbed aboard a magnificent wooden sailing ship.
Its enormous white sails stretched high into the sky, and the ocean breeze made them flutter.
“Wow!” Nancy exclaimed, looking up at the towering sails. “This ship is HUGE!”
Layla carefully examined an old-fashioned map.
“According to this map, we’re heading across the ocean!”
Nancy grinned.
“Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go!”
And with that, their ocean adventure began!
Waves, Wind, and a Wonderful Surprise! 🌊
As the ship sailed farther out to sea, Layla watched the waves roll across the water.
Nancy had discovered something exciting—a shiny golden telescope!
“Layla! Look what I found!”
Nancy lifted the telescope and began searching the horizon.
She spotted seagulls flying overhead, fluffy clouds floating through the sky, and endless stretches of sparkling blue water.
Then suddenly, something appeared in the distance.
“LAYLA! I SEE SOMETHING!”
Layla rushed over.
“What is it, Nancy?”
Nancy pointed excitedly toward the horizon.
“LAND! LAND AHOY!”
In the distance stood a beautiful green island, surrounded by turquoise water and sandy beaches.
“We found land!” Layla cheered.
The sisters bounced with excitement as their ship sailed toward the shore.
But their greatest adventure was only beginning!
A Little History: What Is Columbus Day? 🗺️
Every year, on the second Monday in October, the United States observes Columbus Day.
The holiday remembers Christopher Columbus’s voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492.
Columbus and his crew sailed on three ships called the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María.
After weeks at sea, the sailors reached an island in the Caribbean.
But here’s an important fact: People had already been living in the Americas for thousands of years!
Columbus did not discover an empty land. The Caribbean islands were home to Indigenous peoples, including the Taíno, who had their own communities, cultures, and traditions.
Today, many communities also recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day, honoring the history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.
Learning about history helps us understand different people, different places, and the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.
